3) Why Collect Casino Chips?
There are many reasons to collect casino chips. For one, its an interesting way to own a piece of America's rich gaming heritage. As with any collectable, putting together a top collection is always a challenge that can provide a life time of satisfaction knowing you've hand assembled a premium collection.
The beauty of chip collecting is that there are so many different ways to collect. Many people will focus just on certain areas of the country like Las Vegas or Atlantic City or Southern riverboats. Many other collectors focus on a chips mold and only collect chips of that mold such as arodie, hub, and rectangle just to name a few.
The chip hobby is still in its infancy and there still lies enormous investment potential in rare vintage casino chips. Casino Rarities will remain focused on the most rare aspect of our hobby. What ever you choose to collect, Casino Rarities hope you enjoy yourself!

4) Is Grading Important?
We feel condition is a very important aspect of determining a chips value. Having the best of anything, therefore condition, will always be desirable. There are criteria that factor into a chips overall value, and although not the single most important aspect, condition is a major factor.
Condition is most important in chips when there are numerous examples of a particular issue. The examples in the best condition will command a premium price. As the hobby matures, the premium payed for the chips in the very best condition will likely increase as it has in many other collectibles. Casino Rarities uses a 100 point grading system outlined in the official casino chip price guide by James Campiglia and Steve Wells.
Although not perfect, it is a standard that attempts to properly evaluate a chip based on three major characteristics. They are wear, center inlay or hot stamp and edges. Points are deducted for wear, flaws and damage and a final grade is assigned with 100 being a perfect score.
If looked at closely, even if appearing mint, many edges have small dings. The chips were manufactured razor sharp and through even minimal handling most chips get these tiny "dings" If used more or dropped & a noticeable chip is seen, we then call it a nick & we size it either small medium, or large. The old casino's used metal racks on the blackjack tables. When chips were slammed in there all day long, they got chipped! A truly mint perfect specimen is hard to find. More collectors are now getting involved in the hobby & trying to find the "perfect" chips.I wish them luck. We at Casino Rarities appreciate a top condition specimen as much as anyone else. We have strived to build our collections with these kind of chips. We continue to seek out the best example of a particular chip.
There recently has been major discussions in the hobby regarding chip "slabbing" or third party grading. Casino Rarities will wait and see how the debate plays out before choosing sides.

5) Can I Clean My Chips?
Yes, you can clean your casino chips. Unlike coins, chips can be cleaned . When done properly this can greatly improve the eye appeal of a chip. Casino Rarities recommends avoiding soap and water as this may damage the inlay and leave the chip dried out. We recommend a mild cleaner like Armor all multi purpose cleaner, not to be confused with other armor all products!
Just put a little drop on the chip and gently spread the liquid across the chips surface with a tooth brush. After a few seconds lightly brush the liquid off away from the chips center. Dry with a soft clean cloth. We would recommend not doing this to hot stamped chips as this may wipe the gold off the chip!
